A seamstress tends to either accumulate scraps that I personally have used to patch and repair, but sometimes there is that one odd item that is generally tossed. Well, today I had the ends of a zipper that I was about to toss when I remembered how popular the “zipper” look is with the younger crowd.
So, after I completed the zipper replacement I was working on, I took the new ends of the zipper I had to shorten, removed some teeth to make it work for a 7 ½” wrist, and began to create a new piece of jewelry.
Even for someone not in the youthful prime years of life, I have to admit, I rather liked the final look of this new piece of jewelry. But, the test of whether this was an item that would draw a younger crowd would be the response from our youngest, 19 yr old daughter.
My husband, when I shared with him what I had done, thought it was a little out there, to which I responded, “Think about it, what teen or young adult doesn’t want something a little different than the ordinary?” To my delight, after sending my daughter some pictures, found it to be something that she herself would wear. She was confident that it would be a hit with others who were interested in such style.
Now, I do not plan on purchasing a bulk of zippers, but I do have some that have no purpose due to the varying colors that I have had no need for over the years. I was going to either sell them, toss them or create something else with them, but I personally find this a little interesting.
