My daughter Heather did all the cross stitching while my husband created the frame, which compliments the delicate features of Heathers hand stitching.
I love it when family members join together to create something beautiful for a family member. ~ Laura
I find it quite satisfying in seeing how the talents of our family can pull together to create something so beautiful in an effort to give a gift of love to someone special.
While David and I spent many hours in study this year, there has been little time for us to use our creative talents. So, when our daughter asked us, mid-term, if her Daddy might be able to make a frame for a cross-stitch she created, we simply did not have a clue whether we would have the time to do so. Yet, when we took some time to visit with her in Connecticut this past fall, we took home her creative work. as at that time we were not prepared to say “no”.
As our classes started to come to a close, we were both scrambling as to what we were going to do for others in the family for gifts. We have always made gifts for others. It was something we have enjoyed doing from the moment we were married. I’m not sure if it is because I have a passion for creating something beautiful from our own hands, or whether we simply do not enjoy the hustle and bustle of shopping for things we were not even sure someone would enjoyed.
As the girls came into our lives, the creative passion only intensified. When the girls became toddlers, they were included in the gift making process. As they got older, and attended college, with very little resources to purchase gifts, their talents allowed them to create from their heart a gift of love to others. With only one daughter left in college, balancing her own budget of whether to purchase school supplies, gas, food, etc., she has found pleasure in giving her drawings to those of us who are fortunate enough to receive her artwork.
Although David and I might not have had as much time to be creative this year, we are enjoying the gifts we are presenting to our children and others, along with the few that we have been able to use our creative skills with.
Today, David was able to put Heather’s cross stitch work into the frame he custom made to fit, to present to his father/Heather’s grandfather. A man to whom we all treasure in our family.
As you go about your Christmas, may you find treasure in the small thoughtful gifts of time that others share with you. Those tokens of love, have what I call, a golden lining that cannot be dug up from under the earth. They are the gold nuggets that are found in the hearts of those who give of themselves.
Merry Christmas!!
